About Us
Aims and Objectives

HCC is a community project that relies on local interest and management. We hope that the local community enjoys visiting our three sites and being involved in the various activites and events we organise each year.

The objectives of the Heaths Countryside Corridor are "to conserve and enhance, for the benefit of the public, the natural beauty and habitats of the Greensand belt area around Charing and Lenham and to educate the public in all matters relating to the natural and physical environment and its conservation and protection".

Current Objectives

  • Archaeological investigations at Chilston Ponds
  • Planting of trees to restore the landscape features at Chilston Ponds
  • Creating a pond at Bull Heath
  • Installing sculptures at all of our sites
  • Installing waymarkers along a route from Charing Heath and Lenham Heath
  • Installing interpretative and welcome panels at all sites
  • Installing benches at all sites
  • To provide regular events and activities for the community
  • Continued site management to provide the best environment for the local wildlife and community

Achievements

  • Purchase of Bull Heath, Hurst Wood and Chilston Pines and Ponds
  • Planting of 2000 native British trees and shrubs to provide woodland links between existing (and newly planted) woodland and to more effectively screen the CTRL
  • Management of our sites to encourage an increase in the local wild populations of animals, birds and plants
  • Providing suitable footpaths for people wanting to walk or cycle, and linking these to existing footpaths to provide a safe and interesting environment for all members of the community to use
  • Increasing the length of the current bridle way to link more effectively with other areas of the local villages
  • Providing walks and areas of wildlife that can be used by local schools to increase children’s understanding and ownership of the countryside
  • Providing a “beads on a string” type of nature walk. Each “bead” being an HCC owned site along the route, where people can stop, walk their dogs, relax and enjoy the countryside
  • Providing a variety of events for the community, from newt watching, coppicing, pond dipping, walks to Halloween parties
  • Providing a walk leaflet and circulating it to local residents
  • Installing interpretative and welcome panels at Bull Heath and Chilston Ponds
  • Installing benches and new fencing in several sites
  • Supporting and encouraging local schools to use these sites and providing an Education pack describing the sites and suggesting activities for children
